In the Ornamental Crab Apple

The crab apple tree offers delicious dining for the evening grosbeaks at the moment.

The males gorge themselves while keeping an eye out for their....

females whose table manners are just as bad.

When I say gorge, I mean it.... just look at their food covered beaks. Some of their beaks even seem to be stained purple.

  2. I haven't seen a grosbeak for years - we used to have lots of them when I was a kid on the farm, but they don't seem to visit us in town. Nice to see yours!

  4. I'm so glad they stayed still long enough for you to take their photo. They are pretty.

  6. Little piglets!! You do get a nice variety of birdies in your area. How many stay through the winter?

  7. Oh, a lot of them stay. Some have more sense and move south. Others seem to come and go. For instance we haven't seen a goldfinch for a few days now; but they will be back...the birds around here have a wide variety of bird feeders to choose from.
