New Beginnings On The Wall

Paytime on the design wall
Finding older bits and pieces that have never found a home.
Just the right companion fabrics are surely somewhere in my stash.
It might be time
I never know
But it is fun pinning bits and pieces up there as I contemplate
what unfinished pieces appeal to me after years of neglect.

Piece on the right is a new piece
put together mainly with glue!
I can't believe I'm doing this!
"Rock my World"

Beneath the design wall there is no lack of scraps waiting to join in the fun
and Rusty Pup toys also waiting to be played with of course.

"Rock my World" is to hang outside in the woods.
Not a stitch in sight....

....well, just a few!

What will become of it out in the woods....I do not know.
Ten years ago I wrapped trees with cloth hoping
to get at least some colour.
All I got was critter and mushroom activity like this!

The elements and wildlife can be pretty vicious around here!
Freezing rain kept us from our walks for a few days this week.

But when we did walk Ginger's mission was apparently
to drag this branch along with us for a few kilometres!

I hope your day is warm and cosy
no matter the weather.

Walking with Rusty Pups

After the rain or perhaps a morning fog

The colours become richer
The browns browner
the reds redder

I do love those browns
See two Rusty Pups?

Fast approaching

Galloping along

and here they are!

They do some pretty weird things
Like to carrying rocks
Whoever picks one up first carries it
Her sister doesn't try and grab it....not ever
but
as soon as it is dropped because something more interesting turns up
the other one will take her turn and carry it for a while.

Wonder where they got their love of rocks from!
Well, they have always seen rocks disappear into my pockets.

I hope you find a beautiful rock today.

When Trees Topple

After many months of avoiding it
the pups and I walked what I used to call the 'Advanced Trail'.
After this latest walk I am renaming it the "Ankle Breaker".
We clambered over rock after rock
over moss covered roots
 and through muddy streams.
Every time we turned a corner we discovered a newly uprooted tree
So many trees toppled by wind and rain.

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes,
but in having new eyes."
 Marcel Proust

Every morning the Rusty Pups and I walk familiar trails
through meadows and woods
along an ancient railway line only identifiable because of their straightness!
through marshlands
Over streams
and over oh, so many rocks!
Every morning there is something new that shouts out to be noticed.
Through changing seasons and weather systems
there is always something new to discover.
Today it seems what we are called to notice is roots!

Mighty trees still manage to grow on ground that looks like this!
Amazing!

Root systems towered above us.

Lovely Messiness!

I hope you found something new on your walk today
or as Marcel Proust might say
on your daily voyage of discovery!

Two Show Openings Saturday 18th, Two Provinces

Connection Fibre Artists show Re:Fashion
is moving from Wellington County Museum
to
Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre
33 Victoria Street N, Southampton, Ontario
so
if you are anywhere in the vicinity on Saturday
do pop in and explore
the amazing work of this group of talented people.
I am one of them....
....and I'm sorry I can't be there....
....because it is a great show.

I will be in Nova Scotia's beautiful Bear River
at the Sissiboo Coffee Roaster for the opening of
Wednesdays
a show I share with my friend Diane.
Do drop in
we both love to chat and share our explorations with you.

Thank you Erin for all your help
You were amazing!
And a huge thank you to our two husbands
Richard and Harold
who are always so supportive of our endeavours.

Diane had the forethought to bring along iron and ironing board.

So why the title Wednesdays
Since 2008 Diane and I have been meeting....yes
on Wednesdays!
Everyone knows we are unavailable
on Wednesdays!

Both of us find our inspiration in nature
and are always happy to explore our environment
for local materials and inspiration.

One corner of the show is dedicated to a few
of our explorations

We even found space for a few of the stone pathways to hang
though
Handy Hubby and I both forgot to take the actual stones
that we usually displayed with them.
Getting old!

I like these two together
Diane's on the left

Hanging a show always does me in
but after four hours of work
it is worth it
textiles always make a place warm and inviting
especially in a cold Canadian winter!

See you Saturday

Walking on Stoney Ground

Walking on Stoney Ground
Stoney ground makes no difference to Rusty Pups

Who just stream over rocks of every size

I, on the other hand, have started using a hiking stick
to steady me over rough stoney ground.
My stick is just a tree branch but it sees me through.

This piece I thought was finished months ago
but sometimes a piece has more to say
and so I have added to it and renamed it.
Is a piece ever really finished?

Our morning walk beneath heavy laden skies
had the Rusty Pups blending with
the beautiful rusty marsh grasses
that disappear under the sea at high tide around here.
