A moody moon was setting as we left the house

and a shiny sun started rising as we walked the dike

and RP Kayla laid in ambush for a while

then, whoosh, she pounced

and birds gathered on tree branches watching our morning antics.

Woodland Rusts

The woods are carpeted and warmer than the dyke

Sitting pretty

A dappled RP
more interested in squirrel activity back in the woods
than posing for the camera.

We walk over roots

Do the roots come to the surface on purpose
have we worn the earth away?

A chevron stitch perhaps

Woven roots.

Sunrise and Evening Grossbeaks

Some mornings the sun is a ghost of itself

She's hidden behind thick white blankets

Frost clung to ground level grasses
but anything above five inches was just damp

Arrived back at the house to find
the feeders busy with Evening Grossbeaks.

They must be disappointed
the crab apple tree didn't produce any delicious fruit this year.
Last year they gorged with beaks dripping in red juices.

This year they have to resort to seeds

and ground hopping.

Tingling, Frozen Fingertips

The colours of early winter

Icing on a leaf

Grasses are so skinny they must really feel the cold!

The RP's really show up against  those cool iced greys

The sun hasn't yet hit the white churches across the basin

That's more like it.
Now let's go home and stitch.

Scratching into Winter

The first snow came on Sunday

Winter arrived

with brittle frosty mornings
so I played with warmer threads for a couple of days

frosted grasses
followed by a day of strange stitchings.
Haven't a clue why I stitched what I did!

Saturday was a fun day visiting the first craft show of the season
and coming home with a Christmassy wreath.
Sunday tried to snow and sleet all day long.

Okay I'm Hooked

Still photographing frost.
I'm fascinated with the lack of colour
and how the distant trees introduce just a little bit of colour.

Wonder if any work will come out of these crispy morning walks

I stop every few steps for yet another photograph

Makes me think of Christmas
Sugar plums
those delicious sugar coated candied fruits
we used to nibble on years ago.

Soft beige leaves and a scattering of alder cones.
Gosh I have to work out how to stitch a scene like this.
I just love it!

The sun slowly bringing colour back into my world.

Jack Frost

Jack Frost
By C.E. Pike

Look out! Look out!
Jack Frost is about!|
He's after our fingers and toes;
And all through the night,
The happy little sprite
Is working where nobody knows.

He'll climb each tree,
So nimble is he,
His silvery powder he'll shake.
To windows he'll creep
And while we're asleep
Such wonderful pictures he'll make.

Across the grass
He'll merrily pass,
And change all its greenness to white.
Then home he will go
And laugh ho, ho ho!
What fun I have had in the night.

A Crispy Crunchy Morning

Early winter mornings
bring crisp and crunchy frosts

and blanched landscapes.
Even my two favourite rusty posts have lost colour.

The rusty pups and I are surrounded by gentle muted colours
except the top of the mountain
is coloured by the rising sun.

I even love this monochrome scene
It is the layers
each one a different texture

and grasses bent over with the weight of frosty crystals.

As we walk the rising sun looks warmer than it is.
I thought my finger tips would never stop tingling!

Seven Days Scratched

Another week recorded
moving from blue to red
a sign that Christmas is coming

A flight of geese looking like hieroglyphs
I like that

Remembering the 'murder' of crows
with murder on their minds!
They really don't like eagles anywhere nearby.

at least it's not snow like other parts of Canada

Quilt guild
I begged a strip of cloth from Betsy
and stitched it down whilst catching up with everyone's news
Some sad and difficult to hear
and some happy.

Three strange looking days!
But great days nonetheless
Busy days with friends
Some of them creative play-writes and actors
and others gifted artists with whom I'll be having a show next year.
