A Generous Lacy Gift

A box from a friend full of beautiful linens

I'm allowed to do what I will with them

Just look at how fine and delicate some of the doilies are

All handmade I believe

Interesting designs that I haven't seen before

Exquisite

Beautifully made

And just look at him spinning his hoop!
Let's hope I can do them justice.

Circling in the Mind

Family circle
Circle of friends
Circle the wagons
Talking in circles
Come full circle

Fragile laces handed down through generations
look very much at home on gentle natural dyes.

A very small piece that fascinates me.
It looks more woven than crocheted.
I need to understand it's construction.
Perhaps Deanna knows.

One of my treasures is a beautiful piece
with thin bone clasps all ready to dress up the front
of stiff Victorian dresses.

One Woman's Trash....

Last week at our local guild meeting Kay handed me a brown paper bag. She didn't want to offend me; but before throwing the contents of the bag out she thought I should see them. Inside that bag was a very old, half finished embroidery on linen. A threaded needle still pierced the cloth caught in the act of creating the next stitch. I wondered why the needlewoman had stopped. She had obviously intended to continue...but never did.

The needle was so rusty it was stuck fast in the cloth...really stuck. It took several tugs with pliars and pressure against a hard surface to remove said needle.

But I finally got it out.
An embroidery hoop was still in place creating this lovely half circle crease. I wondered if it would ever come out. Kay was pleased that I accepted her gift. I fear she expects me to finish it as the original needlewoman would have.   She might not recognize after I've had my way with it!

A Gift from my Friend Diane

This week Diane gifted me this marvelous crazy patch throw. Wonder what stories it can tell.

Wonder when it was created. It has one or two sets of embroidered initials.

Some of the patches are threadbare....

and some of them are crunchy and crumbling. The question is how do I care for it? It has an old smell to it that would be nice to get rid of. Replacing the disintegrating patches would be interesting but finding the right replacement fabrics would be difficult.
