Icy Ideas....Nature's Doodles

We are Icebound again.

Puddles down on the dyke are frozen smooth

Elsewhere the ice can be crunchier.

I like to record natures lines....

because....

Mother Nature does a much better job....

of making design more interesting than I do.

Line next to another line next to another.
All flowing in the same direction
but each one unique.

Shapes within shapes
and, hey
I have just spied a P for Penny!

Always Thinking Marks

Yes, I am always filling sketchbooks
Doodling

or scratching

and rubbing

Holding the pen with purpose or loosely uncontrolled

Mostly thinking repetition

and sometimes just creating a mess!
But that's okay
I consider a sketchbook a learning tool
not necessarily a thing of beauty.

Doodlebug

A daily sketch but more of a doodle.
It started off as tree bark
How things change when we're in control.
Perhaps not as smoothly as we would like
A bit too much here
or not enough there
fragmented
but the spaces allow us to breathe.
There is a flow in the empty bits.

Daily Sketching and Scratching

Playtime in a sketchbook is so important
and I don't do enough of it.
The routine of a daily sketch popped up in conversations
so many times last year.
Perhaps the universe was giving me a nudge.
I'm game to have a go.
On wintry days like this a pile of photographs
waits to be explored.
Just like the sandpipers surrounded by protective walls of kelp.
We shall see how it goes.

As if sketching wasn't enough.
There's a long strip of cotton stretching out in front of me.
I'm aiming to 'scratch' at least one line a day
choosing a colour and stitch that feel right.
As I always do at this time of year
yesterday was a day of contemplating what the heck my purpose is
for being here on this planet.
you'd think by now I'd have it down pat!

iPad Primitive

New beginnings
or perhaps new ways of beginning.
Learning to doodle on my iPad.

It's a matter of taking the time
to explore the possibilities and
getting used to a different rhythm
of doing.

I discovered transparency.
Like it.
Could be a useful tool for testing ideas.

Then Handy Hubby told me I could import photos
and so stitching ideas are gathering on top of shibori silk.
Think this app is called Inspire Pro.
Could be very useful....
certainly fun.

Rooting Around Again

The local SAQA group wants about 3 pieces from each of us for the Rooted show..........So here we go again.
Checked out some doodles...

Chose my fabrics, they are Egyptian cotton and no good for hand work.
Machined them together with some textures.
At this point it lay around my studio as I stitched on other pieces closer to my heart.
Will show you how it's developed since then, tomorrow.

Toodle Doodle

Doodles can be the start of something new.
And something new starts today...
My man becomes an old age pensioner.
Happy Birthday Honeybunch!

Doodling

Yesterday I wrote a letter to my dear friend Margi and doodled on the back of her envelope. Thought I was doing leaves in honour of the time of year; but they ended up as leaf critters. There was a time I doodled on a regular basis and perhaps I'll return to that habit. Margi is a doll artist with a wicked sense of humour. A visit to her web page is bound to make you smile.
