The hairy woodpecker in search of breakfast will try anywhere.....
and find delicious things even on the squirrel box......
and if he'd like, the squirrel box has seeds on the roof....
But he didn't fancy seeds and went off hopping, and fidgeting and pecking elsewhere. Apologies for the quality, he was constantly moving and pecking. Some photos ended up with just tree trunks because he hopped round the back of the tree before the shutter clicked.
your little friend is extraordinarily pretty, especially with the little red ear muffs...k.
ReplyDeletePenny it's me again and i'm trying this as an outsider, ie not signed into google. don't know yet if it will work, bu ti'm still seeing "select profile" whereas on mine it's choose "identity", which does work for arlee and others.
ReplyDeleteanyway i'll post now and see what happens.
argh, it tricked me, it knew me but i don't know how!! this time it won't, i'll sneak up on it!
ReplyDeletecheerio, kaite
Goodmorning!!
ReplyDeleteWe have Downy Woodpeckers that come to my feeders. I put out peanut suet just for them. There are three pairs and I think they live in a dying tree in the back along with a Red Headed Woodpecker who frequently visits too. Mine are not as hyper as yours!
Kaite; thanks for the research. Perhaps I should do what AM did and select pop ups.
ReplyDeleteCarol: do you put the peanut suet out all year long? I usually do that when winter comes along. They do love it.
the pop up window is much better as one can still see the original blog and now i can see that it asks me to choose an *identity*, yay, that should work!!
ReplyDeletePenney, I just got done reading Arlee's blog and realized that you changed your comment setup so this comment is a long overdue one re sea glass and your incredible cloth piece. I wanted to reach out and touch the velvet rounds, tactile sea glass in stitch. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the misspelling of your name Penny, got so excited to be able to leave a comment that I goofed!
ReplyDeleteoh i have so many of these. a downy woodpecker. they are so fast and difficult to photo. i love how they hang on things.
ReplyDeleteHe's a cutie, for sure....I can just see you chasing him around the tree.
ReplyDeleteAHA! I'm in :)
ReplyDeleteWe have a slew of these as well that visit our backyard trees, the bird bells and the edge of the roof :) And cheeky as well--i can stand within 4 feet of them and just get the hairy eyeball from them :)
I'm sure there are some around here but I have not seen any that I can definitely say is a woodpecker. The birds are usually too high up to see well on Baxter's walks.
ReplyDeleteHey Arlee and Marti - It worked! Well don Arlee for figuring that out.
ReplyDeletelove the colors of mr. woodpecker. i have never seen one in person.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes hear the woodpeckers but never am close enough to photograph. These pix are great.
