A Sunday Afternoon Walking Rusty Pups

We all love walking in this place
where not only trees tower above us.

Moss covered rock giants

grow between the trees.

Rocks crowd along the river's edge
trying to contain rushing waters.

But the river manages to break it's banks when the Springtime
melt comes.

The Rusty Pups love this place.

When they were younger they would rush through the trees
following every scent and noise.
Now they are content to lead the way along the paths
and rest every now and then waiting for us
two legged members of the pack to catch up.

The sun was very bright that day

and low in the afternoon sky
making for long shadows across the path.

Huge grey rocks...

....looking a bit like elephants taking a dip.

Crumbs From a Visit - Week Thirty-Seven

So now my Crumbs are all caught up
This is for last week....week 36 of 2016.
To me this one is a sandy beach
with driftwood cruciforms.

The Rusty Pups just adore Brett.
He usually visits in the winter months.
This time we had a summertime treat.

We walked the dyke where a beautiful SSSSS
worked it's way through the mud
and
Cottonwool ball clouds just gathered above the other shore.

We all walked Mickey Hill

where RP Kayla always looks forward to a dip in the lake.

Springtime Walk in the Woods

We walked the woods....

The wet woods....

The very wet woods....

We reached a partially frozen lake....

and walked the shore....

Then headed for home again.

Icy Inspiration

We found a dead tree captured mid-stream
by rings of ice.

and another imprisoned for the winter months.

Frozen reflections

The winters are harsh up here in the North....

....but beautiful

The frozen lines in every corner of the woods
each had their own personality

Nature's lines full of stitch potential.

And Then We Walked Mickey Hill

Mickey Hill is gentler than the Fundy Woods

but the same trees grow and die here

and provide habitat for other invading species.

There is always the reward
of a gentle lake at the end of a Mickey Hill hike.
Then my battery ran out!

Living in a Country of Lakes

Wherever I have lived in Canada
there have been lakes
reflecting bold and beautiful skies

Tannin colours the waters here in Nova Scotia
drifts of pine needles line up along waters edge
and huge rocks sunbathe in family groupings.

Islands crammed with trees inhabit lakes

and leaves sink beneath the waters looking like copper pennies in a city fountain.

Living Among Trees

I am comfortable in the woods.

where sometimes the sun breaks through
and lights up autumn foliage....

where Rusty Pups lead me down meandering trails...

where mosses try to climb tree trunks...

where some trees stand ankle deep in fallen needles....

and climb upwards...

and upwards to reach the sky....

where fallen and decomposing bits and pieces....

provide fodder for future stitches.

Woodland Rusts

The woods are carpeted and warmer than the dyke

Sitting pretty

A dappled RP
more interested in squirrel activity back in the woods
than posing for the camera.

We walk over roots
leaves
and
mosses

Do the roots come to the surface on purpose
or
have we worn the earth away?

A chevron stitch perhaps

Woven roots.
