Installing ‘In the Middle of the World’ at ArtsPlace in Annapolis Royal

Before we even began this beautiful vase of flowers arrived from Margi and Kathryn
Our fabulous friends
Thank you both so very much
A lovely beginning for two days of installing.
Boy that task is exhausting!

To get started we wanted to get an easy wall done
We chose
Underfoot the Earth Divine and Resting at Low Tide
Perfect pairing n’est ce pas!
Off to a great start!

Then our precious work lounged about on the floor as we considered what next.

Judy began preparing Eternity for hanging from the ceiling.
And, Handy Hubby, Richard fiddled with straightening.

Judy’s Ned and I discussing something or other
Boy there were a lot of decisions to make!

Miranda Bouchard our brilliant curator and companion from the start of our In the Middle of the World project was in charge of installation of course.
She and Handy Hubby must have been fixing something.
I forget!

She was up and down those ladders like a mountain goat.

Nearly ready to hang Eternity.

Then it was up
And Handy Hubby could get to work on placing my works
According to Miranda’s plan.

We were ready for coffee and a snack!

Miranda and Ned
Where to hang Judy’s bundles.

Surely we are done!
Sorry to bore you
But had to have a record for myself
And thank these wonderful people for such a long two days
With a magnificent end result…..

Next time I will show you the show!

Two Show Openings Saturday 18th, Two Provinces

Connection Fibre Artists show Re:Fashion
is moving from Wellington County Museum
to
Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre
33 Victoria Street N, Southampton, Ontario
so
if you are anywhere in the vicinity on Saturday
do pop in and explore
the amazing work of this group of talented people.
I am one of them....
....and I'm sorry I can't be there....
....because it is a great show.

I will be in Nova Scotia's beautiful Bear River
at the Sissiboo Coffee Roaster for the opening of
Wednesdays
a show I share with my friend Diane.
Do drop in
we both love to chat and share our explorations with you.

Thank you Erin for all your help
You were amazing!
And a huge thank you to our two husbands
Richard and Harold
who are always so supportive of our endeavours.

Diane had the forethought to bring along iron and ironing board.

So why the title Wednesdays
Since 2008 Diane and I have been meeting....yes
on Wednesdays!
Everyone knows we are unavailable
on Wednesdays!

Both of us find our inspiration in nature
and are always happy to explore our environment
for local materials and inspiration.

One corner of the show is dedicated to a few
of our explorations

We even found space for a few of the stone pathways to hang
though
Handy Hubby and I both forgot to take the actual stones
that we usually displayed with them.
Getting old!

I like these two together
Diane's on the left

Hanging a show always does me in
but after four hours of work
it is worth it
textiles always make a place warm and inviting
especially in a cold Canadian winter!

See you Saturday

Crumbs on Fire - Week Thirty-Three

tried to depict the charred woods
with a hot, hot sun and
blackened charred trees.

Fabric has been brewing
wrapped around all the gathered findings at Diane's camp.

Something new for me
started wrapping rusty bits with paper towel
to protect the cloth I wrap around it.
Also
soaked some paper towel in rusty water
and included that inside and around the bundles.

This was a huge bundle!
It is my grandmother's old table cloth
and will be used as the back of a large piece I am about to start.
Very tempted to forget that plan and design a new piece for it
but so far I am sticking to my plan.

Lovely watery markings.

Have a great day.

Spring Clean-up

I sorted and folded all my rusted

and natural dyed cloth

Lovely gentle colours.

Then a surprise
Three leaves printed side by side in the same dye bath
yes three completely different colours.

Are you like me?
I never get to finish a spring clean-up
A colour or a stitch or a scrap
always calls to me
and off I go in search of other bits and pieces that might help give it a voice!

Brewing Up Beginnings

Northern Gannets I think
skimming along an unusually calm bay of Fundy

sent me rummaging through my dyed cottons
for this blue piece that has been waiting for a story to stitch.
Think I know what it is saying now.

A yellow T-shirt
too bright for me.
Let's try and calm it down.
Maple leaves and sweet fern have been stuffed inside.
It's steeping for a few days in a brew of apple leaves.
We shall see!

Colours Feathered

Coloured
Goose-like perhaps!

I'm liking the brown feathering

Some feathers have twisted themselves into tails

And some feathers are floating on the basin.

Hot and Humid Even Before the Sun Comes Out

Early morning
no sun to be seen
nothing but low, low clouds
not a breath of air
hot and humid
that was one sticky walk!

But the funny thing was
RP Shandy
stopped and scratched her neck
Called her to me
Checked her for ticks
Nothing there.
This repeated three more times
Then realization
She had her sister's collar on
Called RP Kayla
Swapped collars
No more scratching.
That's one fussy Rusty Pup!

Back at the ranch
Unwrapped the bundle with red blobs
I'd forgotten
The red was from Eucalyptus.

Nothing very exciting
But after mordanting in an iron bath
things got more interesting
I'm into greys at the moment.

Pebbles holding
things down in the summery sun.

Raw Materials

Neatly stacked
all prim and proper
ready for the kids to arrive.

Nature's soft colours

and subtle markings

and the seductive feel of flowing silk

So much potential
so many ideas
Can't wait to work on them
but first a lovely family week.

Circling in the Mind

Family circle
Circle of friends
Circle the wagons
Talking in circles
Come full circle

Fragile laces handed down through generations
look very much at home on gentle natural dyes.

A very small piece that fascinates me.
It looks more woven than crocheted.
I need to understand it's construction.
Perhaps Deanna knows.

One of my treasures is a beautiful piece
with thin bone clasps all ready to dress up the front
of stiff Victorian dresses.
