The rusty pups disappeared into the woods for what seemed like an eternity. They just wouldn't come back to my whistles or name calling. When they finally bounced back through the woods they were as joyful and innocent as could be. Then they realized I was worried and decided to sit down at my feet (one of them is on my foot!) and spend some quiet time with me. The mossy ground beneath them reminded me of....
this piece of stitching that was meant to be part of something larger; but ended up not belonging. It obviously wants to tell a story of it's own....
Perhaps it is a grassy ground covered in twigs.....
Or perhaps a moss-covered rock. No matter what is decides to be, it will involve many more stitches.
Great inspiration...and that yellow-covered twig looks so tempting to dye with. The texture in the bottom photo is terrific, too. Oooo, so many ideas :)!
ReplyDeleteLovely stitching -- can't wait to see what it becomes. Happy fall to you!
ReplyDeletethe stitching looks like an ancient map of sorts...
ReplyDeletePenny your posts are pure inspiration. Such a feast to visit! Your son's paintings are superb. Gilly
ReplyDeletesuch a wealth of stitches Penny, and hand stitched too, quite obviously a tangle of roots and twigs and grasses. i need to do a class with you - are you coming down here anytime soon? hah ha!
ReplyDeleteSo many ideas, so little time!
ReplyDeleteI remember taking a class with Sylvia Naylor and her telling us to make sure that we really noticed all of the colours and textures in the understory (the land beneath the grasses and the flowers). I believe you have a good grasp on that territory. How large is the piece? BTW, all that hand couching is quite amazing!
ReplyDeleteSuch innocence in those rusty pups, yet I know they're just poised for their next great adventure.
ReplyDeleteI love the cloth textures... beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stitching.
