Each artist in our group

chose a fashion item from the museum's collection

and used their choice as inspiration

for their piece.

The museum staff have now created a wonderful show

of our works alongside their inspiration.

Well worth a drive to Fergus!

My readers might recall me working on

'She Loved the Woods'

and

here is the dress from the Museum's collection

that inspired my piece.

Stitching on the Front Porch

Summer's heat is cooling down up here in the North

Early morning walks are cool and misty

 but the days do eventually warm up

and it is a joy to stitch on the front porch

with Rusty Pups basking in the sun

eager to receive visitors.

It is thrilling for me to be given a chance to stitch.

After two months with the pups

they have settled, giving me more stitching time.

Thank you girls!

Couching down layer upon intertwined layer of twigs and branches.

Just the beginnings

of a piece inspired by our Springtime adventures

discouraging the beavers from taking over our garden.

They did leave eventually.

After all, in these parts, they have hundreds of streams and ponds

to choose from!

Deep in thought watching her sister chewing something or other!

Never had a seagull on the chimney before

he must be wondering if any of the Rusty Pup toys

littering the garden

might be delicious edibles!

 They haven't yet worked out how to get into the car unaided

and they are getting heavy.

Hope they learn soon.

Working with Rusty Pups Underfoot

We have started walks

And they can join me in the studio for short periods now

so I have been able to play on the design wall.

This is often how a piece starts

 Pinning bits and pieces up on the wall.

When I visited Judy on her beautiful island

we decided my mottled grey fabric

really needed the company of Judy's dyed grey and brown velvets.

Now that I am home

I think I also have to include that strip of black discharge linen.

Jut playing around adding and subtracting.

I am where I love to be

It is calming to be in the studio 

even with pups fighting over a scrap of cotton

at my feet.

 We have started walks up the mountain.

They have learned the beep of the tailgate opening

means a ride to fun times!

They are not big enough to jump in yet

but they try and help!

We also took them to meet beautiful Willa next door.

Oh, boy did they love her

Willa was so patient

Two excited puppies at once can be a bit much!

Each one of us chose one of the fashion items

in the Wellington County Museum collection.

I chose this dress

I thought it might have been dyed with black walnut or Alder

perhaps both

I imagined the woman who wore this

might love the woods

as I do.

Connections Fibre Artists

is a group brimming with talent.

Do go and be inspired!

Rusty Pups and Their New Skills

They have worked out how to climb the stairs

So nowhere is safe anymore

All doors are shut tight.

And it appears the stairs are quite delicious.

 I have been thinking of changing their collective name from Rusty Pups

to

Adorables

but then sometimes

Deplorables

is more appropriate

Sleeping beneath my box of dreams

would be considered an 'Adorable' moment.

When those moments of quiet occur

I stitch waves of bushes and foliage

I think the title of this piece will be

She Loved The Woods

The Deadline for this piece us coming up fast

So I'm hoping it will tell me it's story is complete pretty soon!

Right now I am adding an evergreen canopy...

....above woodland bushes.

But the pups are awake again

deciding whether to play with a long legged rooster.

an old sock

or 

wouldn't it be even more fun to dig up the garden.

We've never had diggers before!

They love greeting visitors

especially Handy Hubby on his return from golf.

Grateful for Snatched Minutes

Ready to receive visitors on the front porch

or

planning their next mischief...

like digging between the sofa cushions before a nap.

That is when I can snatch a few moments.

A few stitches.

But then, 

if you leave them unsupervised

and forget to bring the newspaper in,

you will return to a million scattered fragments.

and..... oh, yes,

I'd forgotten what a puppy's reaction to a broom would be!

But no matter

Order is soon restored....

....and we can all relax again until the next puppy mischief.

The Rusty Pups have doubled in size since they arrived.

They are going to be so big!

And one day it will be safe to let them lounge around the studio

and not eat my threads or fabric!

Day of Memory

You were just twenty-one when you left this world.

We can't believe that was twenty-five years ago.

Your family misses you my dear.
