The Centre of a Peony's World

In my life I have learnt

never to turn down the opportunity

to repeat experiences

And so we walked visitors through the Historic Gardens

This time around I noticed was

the showy peonies

and the centres of their little worlds

I don't 'do' flowers

not a flowery person

but my goodness me

surely there is something to stitch here!

We Met a Beautiful Cat and Walked a Mighty Beach

Are we sitting comfortably?

Then we'll begin

We walked this mighty beach

Here the lowlands behind the beach

are protected

by a mighty wall of stones

Some stones escape

and help form

beautiful gatherings of people shapes

down on the water-line

Looking over the salt marsh

And looking closer at the salt marsh

new life

in young black ducks

with their mother quacking instructions

Bits and Pieces of Older Work

Coming face to face

with my work

hanging in other people's homes

always takes me aback

especially when I've forgotten all about the piece!

I've come across the sketchbook

drawings for this piece lately

and think I might take another look

Wonder how I would approach something

similar today

That Was The Week That Was

One week in the life of a scratching

The cutest young raccoon wandered towards the bird feeders

in broad daylight

The young Blue Jays are screeching

at their mothers

for more and more food

Thursday was acrylics class again

we drew and struggled with perspective!

Then

staying on the South Shore with best friend Chris

meant awakening to island vistas

Fourteen stitchers of quilts

Each one unique

each one an artist

gathered on Saturday

sharing and supporting each other

and our work

Lobster boats left high and dry

at low tide

Anyone need a bike?

Playing king of the castle

on seaweed covered rock

When left high and dry boats are propped up

so they don't topple over

Sea birds float freely whether low or high tide

There's always rust to be found

A lobster fisherman needs mountains of traps

miles of strong sturdy rope

and

many a buoy

and of course rusty anchors

Playing The Tourist

We play at being tourist guides

when friends visit

Habitation is a popular place

Every time we go I see or learn something new

This time I noticed

upside down waves on the canoe

this time I discovered the coveted felt hats

were made from beaver fur

Felt from fur!

Caskets filled with vital supplies

and some wine I expect

I could make good use of a leather bucket

Wouldn't mind this front door either!

A tepee stood outside the walls

and me thinks there is a design in there.
