At break of day the sky was heavy with dark, dark clouds
Except for a brave sun trying to rise above the South Mountain.
Our world has been completely icebound for two days
Branches drooping with the weight.
Everything encased
Everything bending over from the weight
Broken branches scattered on the ground
Rusty Pups were able to walk on deep ice covered snow
Not me
but I tried
and after a second each step would suddenly break the surface
and I was up to my calves in snow.
Thank goodness the driveway took my weight
and so we walked back and forth
for half an hour
then gave up
frozen fingers and toes!
Relieved to get back in the warmth
prepare breakfast
and....
....get down to a day's stitching on a new smaller peony piece.
Bringing colour back into a cold icy weekend.
A stormy weekend of power cuts
is no fun at all.
Goodness, I hope you get power back soon. Good to have colour in the embroidery and the RPs, to make up for the general lack of it around and about!
ReplyDeleteAnd your part of the world is also having a stormy winter too isn’t it?
DeleteHere's hoping your power is restored quickly. It gets icy out here too -- but not like that (at least, not that I recall in the last 40 years). I've not seen ice like that since I lived "back East". May you be safe, sound and cozy!
ReplyDeleteDo you remember the hugely destructive ice storm in Ontario and Quebec back in the nineties? I had to drive from Newmarket to Fergus after that one….very scary. At least this time we stayed out at home!
Deletesame here
ReplyDeleteSo, Jude, I think your new home is further inland…are your winters more severe there?
DeleteA bit, but really it is just a rough winter.
DeleteI hope your power stays on! I must say there's something beautiful about a world encased in ice but it's certainly not safe! I enjoyed the pictures of your outdoors, but - and oh - that peony!!! The stitching and the colours are wonderful and I itch to touch. I think part of the enjoyment of stitching is not only to see it but to actually be able to touch to get the entire sensory experience. Beautiful!! Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteYup, not safe at all…..fell flat on my face this morning! And you are so right….I reckon us stitchers are tactile creatures….we have to touch everything.
DeleteWonderful. Your photos, your stitching. I hope you stay warm. Here we are a bit too warm for me.

ReplyDeleteThank you, Penny. Yes, I imagine you get some relief from the heat down on your beautiful coast though?
DeleteDifficult to imagine just how cold it is Penny. I love the picture of the flowers encased in ice but all amazing pictures. Beautiful expressive stitching too. xx
ReplyDeletethat third image is especially wondrous ... and your description of walking on ice-crusted snow brought back a muscle memory from many many years ago ...
ReplyDeletegood to see your fingers working such warm colors in stitch ... heralding a someday spring
goodness, that ice looks dangerous! Love your peony, the colors make me warm all over!
ReplyDeleteWow to everything in your world Penny, the icicle's dripping from the flowers and trees, I've never been in weather that cold, to the happy spring like stitching you are creating. And then the topper, the deer looking into your window. Such a beautiful world you are living in. And those flowering orchids, another wow! All so very lovely. xo
