Scratching Time and Circles

A Birthday week scratched.
Days fly
Weeks swoosh by
and years zoom by!

On Monday I suddenly remembered
my licence had to be renewed by Tuesday.
So we made tracks down to the nearest motor vehicle office.
For Tuesday I had to fit sixty six candles
into one day's scratchings...that was hard!
On Wednesday I recorded the moon against that purple sky.

Boy, was Thursday windy...
I returned home after a day away
to find the driveway blocked by a fallen beauty.
The wind was from the south
it melted away all our snow.

A circle filled to the brim

Then a circle filled with a cross.
The snow returned.

Perhaps I'll fill more circles.

  1. A week of adventures indeed! I hope the fallen tree didn't crash into anything it shouldn't have..

    1. We were lucky, it wasn't close to any buildings but it housed our only light that shone on the driveway for nighttime guests.

  3. The candles, with their vari-coloured flames, reminded me of a poem by Edna St Vincent Millay:
My candle burns at both ends
It will not last the night.
But ah my foes and oh my friends
    It gives a lovely light.

  6. Penny, your 2013 scratchings are surpassing those from 2012. You must be taking more space with each day - a metaphor for something. You say the days fly by, but they are filled with circles, with dynamic energy and self.

Beautiful work. absolutely beautiful. You've cheered me up.
    xx

    1. Yes, Judy, this year's scroll is going to be miles longer than last year's!
Glad it brought a smile to your lovely face.

  7. I agree with Judy....yes, surpassing.
60 really good reasons to keep moving forward.
And I have a brooch, so similar, but not quite ~ very Celtic, not absolutely round ~ maybe I should post it for you to see?

    1. Thanks, Nancy. I started off trying to make every single flame a different colour but soon gave up and started repeating!

Happy birthday, I hope the new decade will bring us more experimentations, stitching and curiosity!
