Dawn Travellers

The pups and I try to start our walk just before the sun rises
at the moment

because as soon as the sun appears

wave after wave of honking geese fly over us

some more organized than others.

We sometimes aren't the only ones watching

as a gazillion starlings fill up every inch of telephone wire!

Itching To Get Back To Stitching

This morning's walk reminded me of my dappled sunshine piece

The new day sun shone through
tree trunks and leaves

warming specks of woodland floor.

We climbed above the clouds

and looked down on the cloud filled valley.

Still busy entertaining.
Apologies

A Quickie of a Week

Busy

Spending time with Humpback whales and Right Whales
Oh so special

A day at Gaspereau Valley vineyards tasting delicious wines
then I got a day off sightseeing and happily
spent the day with 18 lovely textile artists.

Skins of Ancient Trees

Still standing but only with the support of others
a hollow tree with only the bark remaining

I'm sure it provides shelter for many a woodland critter

mosses have settled on it's outer skin

all wrinkled and gnarled

Some bits look more like pebbles than tree bark.

Apologies for not responding to comments at the moment
but hosting visiting family leaves not much spare time!

Watching Whales Watching Us!

You have to trust me!
That disturbance in the water
is nothing less than the endangered
Right Whale
There are only  about 400 left in the world
What a privilege to see one.
We did get closer but I never snapped at the right moment!

Here on the other hand is a young humpback
really playing up to the cameras
and causing his mother all kinds of grief I expect

He gave us a sideways view of his tail

and mother would come close and nudge him

then they dove deeper revealing that lovely arched back...

and a flip of the tail.
Each tail has it's own unique markings
which allows researchers to identify every humpback.

All of a sudden in the distance another calf breached
then his mother showed him how to really do it.
(Not a very good photo but the only one I got)

We went in closer
and watched mother teaching her child
how to raise her fin high and smash it down on the water.
Probably trying to get rid of barnacles.

A special day.

Fundy Trails

Through the woods

to a foggy shoreline
where inukshuks greeted us at every turn in the path

tall ones

and puddle standers

and even short and stubby ones!
What a pleasure
Thank you whoever you are

Then back up through the woods.

Scratched with Thread

Happy to have found a piece of driftwood just the right size

A surprising week

Brother arrived on a jet plane unexpectedly
for a two week visit!

What a busy place Annapolis Royal was this weekend.
Every year artists descend on the town and set up their easels in every nook and cranny.
Then we hold a silent auction for the work produced.
Great fundraiser for our Community Arts Centre.
I don't know yet if I was lucky to get any paintings.
Will let you know.
