Think I will call this one
Edge of the Woods.
I decided to leave a strip unstitched
and once I did that
the piece reminded me of
The edge of the Acadian Forests in these parts
that look completely impenetrable
My inspiration or starting point
came from this sketchbook page
based on a photograph of tree bark.
It was way back in 2012 that I shared
this potential starting point.
So as you can see
sometimes
it takes me quite a while to get down to things!

But of course I never really follow a sketch.
Just like graffiti
I follow wherever my needle and thoughts
take me.
REALLY special!
ReplyDeleteThis is incredible, I love how you have done it, you are so clever.
ReplyDeletePenny this is hauntingly beautiful... so many wonderful places for the eye to rest. Hoping this will come to CONNECTIONS for the second 18 Square Exhibition ... I want to see it! Great piece!

Stunningly beautiful piece
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic!! As I enlarged each photo I could see pictures of my own -- as if they were hidden and I was detecting them. Somewhat like looking at clouds that become animals before my eyes. Its beautiful!

ReplyDeleteEnlarged each one...such a beautiful free flowing combination of stitches on perfect cloth...!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, lovely. And all the better for not following the sketch, I suspect - after all, stitches are not the same medium as pencil lines!
ReplyDeletethis is really fine, penny!
ReplyDeleteLove it.

It's just beautiful, Penny.
ReplyDeleteIt's fabulous. Nature's mark making. I want to touch!
ReplyDeletei remember your bark marking....for another day. i really like the texture of the thread you used, very matte, no gloss.
ReplyDeleteMesmerised by the lazily watching eye that keeps turning up...
ReplyDeleteFantastic stitiching - I love this jungle-like embroidery in one colour.
ReplyDeleteAre the rusty pups ok?
Reminds me of the quote 'The woods are lovely, dark and deep...".
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful inspiring work you do. Thanks.
