Up here we anticipate the May 24 weekend
because that's when the humming birds arrive.
And guess what...
Last Monday at breakfast time
this little fellow practically knocked on the back door
as if to say
'We're back"!
A batch of nectar was immediately brewed
and then we hunted high and low for the feeders
Couldn't find them anywhere
Still haven't found them
Rushed out and bought a new one!
The next day a carload of tiny pots of this and that came home with us
and of course the trowels danced all day Wednesday
finding homes for them all.
On Friday the RP's and I found the biggest owl we've ever seen
watching us from the woods.
Then on Saturday our early morning trudge up the mountain
found us walking through low moist clouds.
My trail of daily scratchings
trudges past purple cornflowers and hostas
in the early morning light
and nestles among columbines and primula
Flowery shadows fall on January's scratchings
Taking a turn across the hostas.
trying to think of something constructive to say and all I can come up with is... love it. It looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteLove doing it!
Deletelove your long cloth....
ReplyDeleteThe daily journalling and keeping it simple is just I need right now.
DeleteAMAZING!! You're creating a true treasure!
ReplyDeleteAnd it's such fun to do too!
DeleteGreat stories... owls and hummingbirds and low mists - my kind of day!
ReplyDeleteAnd all your stories would be made in the company of Pasha the cat!
DeleteThe hummingbird is a delight, and it seems to me that, far from trudging, your daily scratchings positively dance!
ReplyDeleteThinking up what to stitch and how certainly brings a smile at the end of each day.
Deleteyour daily scratchings are just grand. i have 2 hummingbird feeders so i can switch them out every few days. don't want those little birds to think i've deserted them.
ReplyDeleteAnd now I have three feeders but for the life of me can't find two of them!
DeleteWhat a beautiful way to chronicle each precious day...
ReplyDeleteFor me it seems so much more natural than writing a journal.
DeleteThis project of yours seems to become more and more complex. It makes me smile every time that you show your last stitching, the walking through the clouds is terrific. What a lovely way to record everyday life!
ReplyDeleteRecording time in stitch makes for easier memories than writing I think.
DeleteAs always Penny, your art is inspirational.
ReplyDeleteAre you working on linen or cotton?
Both actually, Krissy. Some of the lengths are cotton and usually the smaller lengths are linen.
DeleteThis just keeps getting better! Love your hummingbird, owl and the cloud walk.
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly changed from January!
DeleteYour scratchings are getting longer and longer Ha !
ReplyDeleteThe hummingbird is cute and so is the big owl, but you really made me laugh when I saw two human feet and eight dog feet peeping out from under the clouds !!!
Getting longer and evolving. Glad you're enjoying them!
Deletei notice how much more "involved" your scratchings have become, connected. neat!
ReplyDeleteYes, you're right and the more "involved" they get the more fun I'm having thinking up ways of stitched journalling.
DeleteWe're in northern NB and ours returned in the last couple of weeks too. I love your stitching, especially the one of the hummingbird!
ReplyDeleteThanks Holly...thanks for dropping by.
DeleteI have truly loved watching your cloth and stitches evolve over time. As others have said, I too have noticed & enjoyed seeing little pictures appear as time has gone on. Your simple lines of the hummingbird show what an amazing artist you are! I also enjoy the hummingbirds at my house :)
ReplyDeleteYes, Nancy they certainly have evolved and I'm still enjoying it....was worried I'd loose interest. Now if I could only find my other two feeders, my humming birds would raise even healthier babies!
Deletegreat fun to record your lives in this way...would love to see it for real!
ReplyDeleteCome on over!
DeleteI really enjoy your posts showing your daily stitching. I have to admit that I like the way your stitching has evolved from stitches to more images. How long is the banner now?
ReplyDeleteI love the trail through the garden and look forward to seeing every new bit of stitching from you
