Bucket Play

Played with my first indigo vat.
Think I might be leaving this to others in the future!
I'm such a brown person.

Came up with a pair of eyes....

and strips of moons rising on yellow cotton with washers as resists.

Happy with over-dyed rusted cotton.

But the bestest of all is the pile of blue threads I now have.

Oh, yes
and I have one rusty pup with blue polka dots now!
She has to get involved in everything.

  1. Carry on and do some more, I say. I think they're wonderful.

  2. Rust and chestnut go well with blues, so I'm sure you'll find a flood of inspiration from all this!

  4. I have a suggestion! You can just bring all the blues to TO when you visit. I'd be happy to take the offending colour off your hands. Giggle!!

  5. Perhaps next summer, Karen, when things warm up again.

You are right, Rachel, perhaps a watery piece will come out of it with some rusty bits floating around.

Thanks, Chloe. I think I should sit down and make some decorations like yours....they're lovely.

  8. Lovely!! You can always mix blues with brown (the rust goes sooo well with the blue). The yarns are extra special - love them!

  9. good results, what method did you use?

  10. Deanna...I think me too.
    Kaite...not a beautiful sight!
Penny..yes the yards are my favourite too.
Jude...it was a kit of natural indigo, lye and thiourea dioxide from Maiwa. I'm a bit disappointed in not achieving really deep blues.
    Grace...Yes. rust and blue...good combination.

  11. I see why you're excited about those threads and yarns! And I love imagining a blue polka dotted dog.

  12. Wonderful results!!! I found that you have to keep dipping the fabric every 20 minutes or so to get the rich, deep blue. Your pup and I would be a great pair. My glove "blue" out as I was manipulating some fabric - blue nails are in style, eh?

  13. Yvonne and Jeannie...What I didn't mention is that I got covered in more blue dots than the dog did!

  16. I'm with Kaite - I want to see a picture of the blue speckled rusty pup (which just adds to the thought that blue and rust belong together!). Personally, of course, I LIKE blue but I'm not about to start playing around with vats of potions.

  17. I have one more package of color remover that can be used as the activator for the indigo and then after that I'm going to keep playing with yeast (think I'll leave the urine to others!).
