Rooted in Rock

Sometimes the squirrels barely escape up the trees.....

Some Trees grow into mighty guardians....
despite being rooted in rock.

Their roots must dig deep.

I am told their roots reflect their canopy

  1. There you go again, overlapping transparencies - this one is poetry. that's a beautiful rock, all covered with lichen and moss, if pups could only climb.
You've managed to capture the power and strength of the tree in your work...k.

  2. It's wonderful! I rarely work in browns, but I find your piece so very appealing.....I think that you have a natural affinity for trees and rocks. All that nature is rubbing off on you! BTW, don't forget to remove the needle from the piece. I spotted it when I enlarged the photo. Heh, heh....

  4. One side of our house is pure rock and yet the trees have grown up from it in most mysterious and magical ways. Your translation into art is beautiful.

  8. Well, after seeing Jude's post about turning things upside down, perhaps I will try that, Deanna!

Couching is sometimes the only way to go!

  10. Your cloth is awesome Penny. All of that wonderful stitching and cloth. How I would love to see this is the flesh.
Shame you couldnt take that driftwood home...all weathered and worn (just a bit too large for the home).

  11. Wow Penny. Your tree is amazing! I think I am a tree inside also. I've always loved them from the time I was a little girl.
