Stitching Calmly

I have been bringing elements together for a larger piece.
I am thinking of the Basin
Water that flows in and out with the tides
Mud flats that shimmer on a sunny day
The dikes and waving grasses
and trees.

Stitching on my favourite browns and greys.
Couching yards of wool
which in my mind's eye are trees,
probably deciduous.
The wool had been intended for a scarf
but I just don't have knitting fingers...
or the time....
or the inclination.
Stitching is where I choose to spend my time.

  1. Like you, I'll do almost anything else with wool rather than knit with it!

I do like the idea of Stitching Calmly. I'd like some of that in my life too!

  6. I am new to your blog, and I love seeing Tanglewood Threads in my inbox. At 72, I am in the process of retiring from an intense field, and I am hoping to "be creative" in my retirement. At the very least, I want to finish a quilt for each of my children, because I see that is how they are remembering my mother.
But, I am drawn to embroidery and I think that working every day is useful. I am drawn to "Stitching Calmly."
I gather that you started stitching every day; initially, you were prim and proper and very orderly, and somehow you expanded to the beautiful pieces you are sharing today. You were once precise and now you are free flowing.
Any thoughts for a beginner? Did you start with certain size of cloth? any special cloth? Backing? (I'm a quilter) Specific threads/yarns?
    Anything you would do differently?
    Thanks for reading this far.
