Sibling Oaks

We have two young oak trees
that have been catching the afternoon sun lately.

Quite different in colour.
....There is nothing like a tree....

Cotton Candy Morning

Cotton candy clouds light as feathers
hover over the basin
as the sun thinks of rising.

A meandering stream has worn its way
through the low-tide mud.
It is the kind of mud that sucks your wellies off!

Scratched Scrolls

Scratched scrolls are piling up

Yards and yards of daily stitchings are accumulating.

This week included a visit to the dentist!

Row upon row of running stitch have been growing in the background.

Rows of daily scratchings mark the passage of time.
Do I carry on next year?
Do I change things up?
I will have to decide before the Holiday season.

Going Back in History

We visited Port Royal....

with it's chequered seams
and cannon on guard.

Row upon row of stitched thread perhaps.

Rusty pups had fun.

The beauty of a chestnut tree with conkers carpeting the ground beneath.

Not so beautiful angry clouds over the end of goat island.

Gilbert's Cove

The lighthouse at Gilbert's Cove.

Surprised to see a heron who hasn't travelled south yet.

Anchors Away!

Rusting away that is.

Clothed rocks.

Do you see the wind farm across the bay?

Making Footprints in the Sand

It is a long walk to get to the sea....

....after climbing over the dunes.

One of us found a cooling puddle.

The ocean's footsteps marked the beach.

A Thanksgiving Week

We Canadians celebrated Thanksgiving this week.

Our good friend Irene arrived from Montreal

We visited Mavillette Beach
and many other lovely Nova Scotian spots.

On Friday our friend caught a very lopsided plane back to Montreal!
That evening we went to see Lee Daniels' the Butler...
....one powerful movie.

Giving thanks for the glorious fall Mother Nature gave us this year.

Cool autumn morning at high tide.

I'm stitching a watery piece with a deadline fast approaching.

Scratchings in a Wicker Suitcase

Now you see them...

Now you don't!

On Monday I was obviously getting myself all knotted.
On Tuesday Handy Hubby and I went for blood tests and then to vote....
....all before breakfast!
On Wednesday, Diane and I took some wrappings out of the stream....
some around rocks, some around rusty and some around a log.

The rest of the week flew by.
Tide and time wait for no man.

My favourite tiny wee stitching this week....

....and these two.
Happy Thanksgiving to the Canadians among you.

Autumn Down on the Dike

The soft greys of naked trees
and fiery colours of dying leaves
the blue greens of conifers
surround us these days.

Down in the marshes
bull rushes fill damp corners.

On the dike
rusty leaves of ferns are underfoot

eaten leaves
dance in warm breezes.

greying wildflowers
show off the deep burgundy rose leaves.

The golden rod fades.

Everything preparing for what comes next.

Pictou Birds

Seagulls were everywhere

They even joined cormorants on the rocks

They hung around one end

and the cormorants crowded the other end.

Some gulls posed

and some youngsters lined up in military precision

Wonder what he`s thinking.

Waiting for the sun to come out.
