The happy couple
were here for a long time yesterday morn
The rusty pups had to keep their legs crossed!
To our surprise Henrietta on the right wandered off into the trees
Handsome Harry caught an enormous fish
Didn't know we had anything that big in our pond!
Then Henrietta wandered back down the other side of the stream
(by the way I have no idea which is which!)
With all our attention on the herons
we didn't even notice there were two more pond paddlers.
We've tried to discourage this pair
we worry about their safety
but they come several times a day.
Yesterday they bravely tried to keep the Rusty Pups at bay.
I'm worried they're going to nest here.

Neat to see your wildlife. I have never seen these Heron in person, though we do have Blue Heron here.
ReplyDeleteHi Carol. These are great blue herons too. I was thinking that this year they look more beautiful and showy. Apparently they are dolled up in breeding plumage at the moment.
DeleteI also have a thing for waders and paddlers. Gorgeous landscape. It looks so crisp and cool. You can really see the stitches in the first image of the trees above the pond. What a contrast to my own surroundings.

DeleteWe have herons on the lake near to us but I think they're grey herons. They're very active at the moment but I can't see any nests anywhere although I'm sure there must be some. At another lake a little further away there is a tree which has about 10 herons' nests in it - it's amazing to see such a lot of large birds balancing in those branches.

DeleteWonderful to be on a pond as it attracts critters to STAY. The forest is wonderful, but mostly my furry neighbors just pass through. The heron pair are quite stunning in their feather boas!

ReplyDeleteI expect and hope that their nest is in a safer place than my puppy filled garden and that we'll see less of them when they start laying eggs. Perhaps later on in the year they will come and give their young a lesson on avoiding charging pups!
DeleteYay - it looks like Henry has a Mrs! I've been having fun watching a pair of crows (and I assume their babies - the nest is just a wee bit too high for me to see into from the window). Granted, crows aren't quite as exotic as herons!
