Edges are always last.
When you reach the edges
and actually decide on how to finish them...
...there is another surge of energy
and you know it will be completed within a week.
You leave the top layer frayed
and turn the backing in so that a narrow line of muslin
peeks out beyond the piece.
You've turned the corner and you're coming down the home stretch.
Daily sketches still proceeding
but they take me away from my stitching.
I need more hours in the day!
Daily scratching from the weekend.
It's beginning to look like a sampler.
Not what I want!
Will aim for more consistency this week.
I'm thinking that it will be hard for you to let this one go!! How long will be on display across the waters?

ReplyDeleteI read the other day that when children first perceive objects, the edge is the first thing they realize...it does seem to reverse itself when we get older. Edges are last because maybe we really don't want to finish; maybe we are always just the frayed edges. Good post. Thank you Penny.

Repeat to yourself...often...I have all the time in the world! This was a lesson I learned last year but forgot when I entitled a blog post 'So Many Projects...So Little Time!' A dear blogger friend reminded me that - Time is a construct that you invent, you have lots of time!!!!!

sometimes i do the edges first. but then again sometimes i am inside out.

I struggle with edges...always want to leave them "raw", unfinished, but that's not always the best solution. I'm appreciating your treatment of them here, it's a good one.

ReplyDeleteyour daily sketches are looking more complex every day. so much time is needed everywhere, it's a shame we can't find a micro-loan for time, tho repaying it would be another matter.
