Stitching Lichen

T wrote about trying this stitch out.
And I believe she found it at Chris Grey's who has a link to  Deepa's Chemanthy tutorial.
Oh, what a tangled path we lead!

It made me think of lichen.

And they look even better combined.

  1. Penny, what a wonder this is. Was it hard to stitch through the lichen? I imagine that it would break as the needle sewed through? Lichen are ethereal, mysterious and beautiful in form. Have decorated with some windfall lichen by placing the little lichen covered twig on a tiny grapevine wreath. This summer collected lichen windfall to make dye and got a beautiful almost peach tan color.

  3. I must try this stitch! Perhaps not soon, but you've sparked my imagination yet again. Are you just playing or do you have plans for it? BTW, I do so love the soft colours.

  9. Hey Marti: I didn't stitck through the lichen, just onto grey cotton. That last photo is an overlay of the two photographs.

AM & Dolores - I am just playing at the moment; but they could end up in a finished piece.

Aracne - I'm sorry I'm too fast for you! I expect I'll be slower sometimes.

Kaite, Els, Debi & Deanna It's worth exploring. I agree Kaite - lots of possibilities

  13. Me too re: the circular stitch. It's on my list to use someday.

Your juxtaposition with the lichen is wonderful. I'm interested to see what comes next in this line of thought.
