The Sun Sets on Seven Months of Stones

It is hard to believe seven months of stone stitching
 has already gone by.
Three months are stitched together
and piles of another four months worth of stones
is waiting in the wings to be assembled.
Surely it is time.
Must get down to that job.

 Softly brown
Could this one be sandstone I wonder?

Hints of pink
My new favourite colour!

Some rocks can be flat as a pancake, almost.

Broken in half perhaps.

Simple black beauty.

Jagged

Smoothly pale

It has been a breezy sunshiny day
and as I prepared to photograph on the deck
noticed how beautiful the stones were
with the sun shining through
so
I wandered around the garden
and found a branch.

One could say I am returning my stones to nature!
Stones dancing in dappled sunlight
The warmth of the sun on my shoulders
Calming

And so the sun set on another beautiful
summer day.

When You're Not Quite Three.....

 When you're not quite three.....

.....and you have a brand new baby sister
whom you adore.....

....you don't understand why you are not allowed
to squeeze he living daylights out of her, or.....

.....or shove one of those ear exam thingies
into her ears!

When you're not quite three only
Daddy can push you high enough
to nearly touch the sky.

 When you're not quite three
it seems like a good idea to pile all your
toys on top of you.....
or gather the family outside on the porch
to have a party
as thunder and lightning
scared the living daylights out of your Grandma!

When you're not quite three
it is only natural to walk into Georgian Bay
to make sure
throwing stones is even more fun.

When you're not quite three
you are invincible
and think nothing of working out how to
climb a slide made for much bigger people and.....

 .....swoosh down that slide, and
do it over and over again.

When you're not quite three
you join a soccer team.
Even younger than when your Daddy joined
way back in the day.

And you learn to listen to your coach
especially when he tells everyone to sit on their ball.

When you're not quite three
sliding down onto your Mommy seems like a good idea

and

life is just grand.

Stones of Summer

Think I have photographed the wrong side of this cutie!
Or perhaps the lighting was so bad that night that
I couldn't see so well.

We have had Handy Hubby's cousin visiting
in between being tourists we looked at some M-I-L paintings
thus this week's background.

Thanks for coming to our little corner of the world
Dianna and Mark.

This stone is surprisingly heavy.

Scraped by man?

My favourite this week

Speckled egg of a rock.

I am focussed on enjoying my summer days
It is hard to believe the days will
be shortening soon
and moving towards cooler shorter days.

Have a great creative day.

Steven's Day

On this day in 1994 we lost our son Steven
He was a young man studying art at OCAD
and full of plans for the future

As he drove to his summer job
he was hit by a car whose driver had fallen asleep at the wheel
Our Steven had no chance
On this day of memories this poem by Ron Tranmer often comes to mind

The Broken Chain

We little knew that day,
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death, we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you.
You did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide.
And although we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.

Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
We feel you around us all the time
and now, Steven, you have two little nieces to watch over
both named after you
Ashley Rose
Stevie Ray
Me thinks that would tickle you pink!
and boy would you love them

All Caught Up

Found on the shores of Georgian Bay.
It is kind of funky isn't it.

Lots of white stones scattered about Ontario.

Simple beauty

Pitted white. Must be chalk surely.

Love this one.

More funkiness from Ontario!

Love this one too.
It is the simplicity of running stitch appliqué.

I'm relieved to be caught up.
Moving on to next week's stones
and a Summer of stitching.

Stones in Absentia

Every morning as the rest of the family began to stir
Ashley and I would examine her Mommy's
rock collection.
Precious moments to start the day.

Sometimes we would just examine them.

Sometimes we would trace around them.

When Ashley discovered my eraser
she took great delight in returning
all our hard work to white pages again.

By the way, Vicky....
do you recognize the background stitches!

It was so wonderful being a grandma
to our nearly three year old....

....and our new 2 month old.

Two weeks of precious moments.

I hope your day is filled with memorable moments.

While I'm Away

Cracked marble

Smooth and speckled

A nose and two eyes
A mouse perhaps.

Wrinkled like a comfortable old shoe.

Stones exist in the moment

This one decided to become a teeny tiny slither.

Woah....Pink!
Kind of.

Have a great week.
