Can't Resist those Birds

Sitting and waiting for seeds to fall.

Hunkered down waiting for yet another storm to pass.

Tiny cutey pie .

Waiting her turn.

Snow watching.

Seven Days Scratched

A week with a lovely ending...

A lecture on the move towards abstraction
and Kandinsky's first abstract watercolor
where I found and stitched some shapes.

Friends have loaned me a book on primitive art treasures.
This long nosed fish was a tiny weight for weighing gold.
Nowadays we don't make such things into beautiful art pieces.

Two days of snow and being cooped up inside.

If it's Friday it must be time for yoga classes.

Our treat this week is the arrival of son Brett for a lovely visit.
I can't believe how ugly my stitching for Sunday is!
Way too preoccupied with a wonderful guest I guess.

Waiting and Sketching

Never leave home without a sketchbook....

Never sit in a waiting room without pen and sketchbook!
I had seen these shapes in bark on a tree.
As I doodled it occured....

...that a series on tree bark
could become shields
because the bark protects a sensitive core...

...but they wouldn't have to be shield shaped.

Then I thought of frozen puddles...

...and how I might stitch them.

Then I remembered my circles piece
and that I should do another one.
Finally my wait was over
having accomplished a lot!

A Bookish Week

A week of learning and sorting

Monday evening was fun
I attended a lecture on the history of sculpture.

Mid-week was spent sorting through boxes of old books
and discovering worn and tattered copies
of Winnie the Pooh.

I've been playing with a design of cracked tree bark.
I'll show you some sketches tomorrow.

Shoreline Grasses Piece

I think this piece is finished.
It will have to rest for a few days
as I think of a title.

A little piece of rusty shoreline worked it's way in somehow.

Grasses stitched their way from behind a pebbly shore.

Usually I know the title by the time I've finished...
...not this time.
Wonder what it wants to be christened!

Strutting His Stuff

He's thinking of skating perhaps

There's gotta be a few seeds around here.

Perhaps on the table

If anyone else comes I'll shoo them away!

A Week of Snow, Wind and Rain

 Winds have been ferocious
Swirling snow
then whipping waves
in rain filled puddles

My car won't start
It hasn't worked since New Year's Day!

The chickadees
are constant nibblers
of our delectable sunflower seeds!
And
on Friday yoga classes started
and
we went to see Tom Hanks in Captain Phillips

Keeping warm.

Where the Birds Gather

Birds gather in our berry laden bush.
They wait there because the bird feeder is very close by.
the Blue Jays are bold and noisy.

Cardinals are timid....

....but patient.

When the coast is clear
they dart towards the feeder.

The Junko family is always hopping beneath for fallen seeds.

Scratching a New Year

I have decided to continue

recording my days in stitch.
and as it snowed Mark's Donna celebrated a birthday.

We have had the most snow
 and
the lowest temperatures since moving to the Maritimes.

This year I am going raw edged again.
This year I am going to add smaller bits and pieces
of cloth to a base rather than the long strips used in the past.
This year the stitches might flow from one day to the next.
Every evening after dinner I will sit down and scratch away!
