Foggy Mornings Walks

The full moon setting behind morning fog

And the sun rising beyond that same fog.

Just warning you I am driving off beyond computers and suchlike
for a few days
therefore scratchings might be late next week.

Beach Walking

We always walk towards the water

With dunes at our back

Tennis balls are thrown
and frisbies fly through the air

Some of us cool off in damp sand

Sometimes the frisby settles after creating a perfect spiral

We sip tea on the terrace of a local restaurant
as the Rusty Pups watch from behind wall

There's not much seaweed on this particular beach

We followed a logging truck on the road home.

Beach-time Scratchings

A perfect week scratched

A carnival Monday
Purple markings for Tuesday
Stitching blues on Wednesday

Darning a beach on Thursday
Row upon row of waves gently breaking for Friday

Just about every morning this week
the full moon was still lighting up the skies
as the sun rose.
So of course tides have been mighty.

A Smorgasbord of Discharge

The deck has been an outdoors studio this summer

What fun I have had preparing samples

for the discharge workshop

I will be teaching at Fibreworks next May.

Scratching Flow

Decided the new strip of cotton would be one of my mop up cloths
from dyeing.
This means having to navigate my way around many blotches
and puddles.
Seems appropriate since puddles spread in the garden again this week.

Monday seemed to ask for an edging stitch in a Kantha fashion.
Creating a regular pattern by changing the length of running stitches
takes way more discipline than I seem to have.

Monday works it's way around a lovely mauve puddle.

Tuesday and Wednesday kind of flow into one another.
But on Wednesday Diane and I made more nature marks
by wrapping rust and rocks and logs from the wood pile
and dropping them in the stream
where they will remain for about a month.

It poured beneath what looks like a flying carpet of clouds.

Of course an eagle for Saturday.

Started drawing classes with Louise.
She will make us draw all manner of things
and try to instil in us the discipline of drawing every day.

Tangerine Morning

The clouds have moved on
So nice to see the sun again

She's here to warm a cool rain drenched land.

Then RP Kayla and I spied beavers swimming towards us.
One after another a new head appeared from around the corner.
Six in all.

They explored the banks

and created watery ripples.

Then, looking up, I noticed the sun had reached the fields beside us
though we were still in the shadow of the dike.

Turning towards the basin I spied a familiar shape
walking the shallows of low tide.

Scratching Grey

A grey and rainy week

The puddles are growing in the garden

The sky is like a grey cloud ceiling

When will there be a break in those clouds?

The rain doesn't stop migrating birds
They arrive in the garden every morning.
Some stick to the tree tops feeding on fir cones
and others bounce around the garden feeding on worms.

On Friday the sun came out.
Not a day to stay indoors
so we marked fabric in the sun.
If you have been dropping by for the last couple of years
you know that if time is short
there is nothing I like more than taking ordinary stitches
and messing with them!

Happy threesome

Drifting between the islands.

Casserole of Scratchings

Served up for dinner in a beautiful Lucky Rabbit casserole

Pots and pans gathered in the kitchen
as dinner prepared itself

Going round in circles

Scratching time on sunny days

We are nursing one sick Rusty Pup
and entertaining one healthy one

A day of sunshine rays
and a day of silvery drizzle
