Scratching Out 2014

The last days of 2014
like the tides of time!

I've been stitching pebbles onto canvas
for a couple of paintings I have to do.

This year's Christmas Eve stocking is pinkish
in honour of Ashley Rose
who suddenly discovered she could string noises together
and converse with us over Face Time!
Brett arrived for a few days rest in our woods.

I always seem to do a Christmas Day star.
This one is dancing.

Some of my mother's paper piecing
for this family time of the year.

Brett left after what must have been a very quiet week for a city boy!
And so another year of scratching comes to an end.
That is three years now.

  1. Your scratching have been lovely, I don't know if I can do one this year, I had promised myself I would but this looks like a very upset year. so many things on my plate including a shoulder replacement, not sure how much stitching I will be able to do. Love the bright colors in your last post.

  2. I would like to start scratching tomorrow. Can you suggest some guidelines for me?
    Happy New Year!!!!

    1. Start with a lightweight cotton strip six inches wide. On top of that baste a second layer. This top layer can of course be any tule of fabric. Then start recording your days in stitch. If it was a busy day I allow myself to do the simplest row of embroidery stitch. But it can be quite complex images sometimes. Add more strips of foundation and top layers as you need. I always start a new strip every three months otherwise it gets a but cumbersome. Hope that helps.

  3. Love following what you work on

  4. I'm so glad I have been following your stitches err scratchings ... truly beautiful and inspiring!

  5. Three years? That's a pretty amazing thing. Definitely a testament to your commitment. I do hope that you're going for year #4!!!

  6. Love the dancing star! In fact, lovely scratchings in general!

Thank you for taking the time to comment, your thoughts are most welcome.
