Handsome Harry is Back in Town

He arrived after supper
strolled across the garden
making sure we knew he was back
then dropped into the pond

and wandered up the stream
fishing for a quick snack before bedding down for the night.
I think he's grown.

    1. Last year he became a frequent visitor and we're thrilled to have him back. We worry that the rusty pups scare away a lot of bird folk.

  2. A heron flew over my car on the way to work this morning. They are magnificent.

  4. He is quite a handsome fellow.... glad he's back, always good to find the regulars back after their long journeys to who knows where! Here, I await the return of all the wee warblers. It will be a little while yet, but I look forward to it - and the songs of the Thrushes, oh, that is such an exquisite song to awake to in the morning.

  11. What a splendid fellow! We have just welcomed back a pair (I believe they are the same) of tawny frogmouths which have taken up lodging during the day on top of a spotlight outside my bedroom window, with the other perched on the downpipe covering, just under the eaves. The house is two floors at the back so they are well out of the way and if they feel vulnerable they lift their heads and pretend to be branches. Google them - they are related to owls, but not owls, and can give you quite a fright at eye level.

    1. Oh, Robyn, I just googled those tawny frogmouths....they are adorable and I would have mistaken them for an owl. I'm smiling as I try to imagine them trying to look like twigs or branches.

    1. Yay indeed though he is probably regretting his return because as I write my replies here, the pond has frozen over again.

    1. Ha! That would be a tale to tell! But I'm afraid the RP's scare most sensible visitors away.
